The days and weeks following the massive 7.8 earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25 have been devastating for survivors, with many still living and sleeping in tents as subsequent aftershocks continue throughout the region. On the ground, the volunteers, led by Sewa International Nepal and Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh Nepal supported by Jankalyan Pratishthan, Pragyik Vidyarthi Parishad Nepal, Janajati Kalyan Ashram Nepal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad Nepal, Pashupati Shiksha Prasar Samiti and Sewa International Bharat are continuously operating the 'Relief Campaign' in the 17 most-affected districts, distributing supplies and providing ready to eat materials and rice for families and individuals. More than 1,600 Swayamsevaks are earnestly serving throughout the affected areas.
Distributions of relief supplies, including shelter materials, hygiene kits, blankets and health care supplies, are scaling up. Although aid is now reaching many of the areas affected by the April 25 earthquake and the subsequent tremors, access remains a challenge for some of the worst affected areas, particularly remote villages in the hilly districts. However, trained with values to support the needy whenever necessary, racing against time and situation, volunteers are reaching the worst-hit villages enthusiastically.
We should definitely acknowledge the efforts of thousands of volunteers who are contributing in the affected areas without any compensation or any tangible benefits. The current response for recovery will definitely reduce the harm and boost the morale of victims.
