While reconstruction of thousands of schools in Nepal‬, heavily damaged by the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks, will no doubt be a priority in the recuperation stage, if we remain reluctant to provide at least an interim solution promptly, we run the risk of losing many children who otherwise could benefit from our endeavor to provide them with an opportunity to mould their future better. For if children are not supported in emergency context, they are less likely to become productive and responsible members of their communities. If support is not available for these children, the resulting psychological and social tension puts strain on the fabric of society, hampering peace and development. In this crucial juncture, Sewa International Nepal and its co-working volunteer organizations- Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh Nepal, Jankalyan Pratishthan, Pragyik Vidyarthi Parishad Nepal, Janajati Kalyan Ashram, Pashupati Shiksha Prasaar Samiti Nepal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad Nepal, Rashtra Sevika Samiti Nepal etc. have shown commitment to help communities to ensure the protection of their children, reinstate their learning activities by providing them with stationary supplies, bring the affected children in safer place- probably a hostel with accommodation, food, recreational activities, peaceful and amicable environment for their proper development etc. in coordination with the Government of Nepal. For the same, the organizations have broadened their research and developmental horizon by initiating involvement in post-earthquake relief, recovery and reconstruction activities by conducting various activities such as brainstorming interactions to hash out the further plan of reconstruction and rehabilitation program, visiting affected areas for precise assessment, interactions with the local communities in affected areas and fund raising for the cause etc. All aspects of a child’s well-being are to be taken into account – including the impact of health, education, protection and social services – and aim to ensure that a broad group of diverse actors can work using one coordinated approach. Experts note that the implications of not taking into account mental health and psycho-social well-being can be severe, getting in the way of larger humanitarian efforts in emergencies. In these situations children needs psychological support, recreational activities, non formal education and nutrition to overcome children from trauma. To achieve the objectives of providing the quake-affected children with child friendly space, enrolling them in formal educational system, availing them with stationary materials, Life Skill Based Education, health and Recreational services etc. a committee named 'Bhukamp Prabhawit Bal-Balika Samrakshan Samiti' chaired by Shri Kalyan Timisina (former AIG) has been formed. The committee is entitled to visit the affected districts to get precise assessment of the situation of children around there. Following the study and with available assessments of the needs and requirements, the committee in coordination with Janajati Kalyan Ashram and Jankalyan Pratishthan will act as follows: Establish child-friendly Hostels for vulnerable children in four various locations within the vicinity of earthquake affected districts viz. Dhading, Dolakha, Nuwakot and Kabhrepalanchok, wherein the children from nearby districts could be brought in coordination with their parents/guardians and Government. Provision of food, accommodation, study materials, clothing, life skills based education, psycho-social support, recreational facilities, medical requirements etc. together with 'Sanskar' so as to develop in them the love for their indigenous cultural values, human values and Nation.
